The Centenary University Master of Arts in Organizational Leadership (MAOL) equips professionals with a comprehensive understanding of the intricacies of leadership, enabling them to navigate the challenges and complexities of the modern workplace. The Master of Arts in Organizational Leadership is an online program designed to help you excel at leading individuals, teams, organizations, and yourself!

The M.A. in Organizational Leadership is a 30-credit, in person or online program providing you with the knowledge and skills to excel as a leader in any field. The MAOL program offers you an opportunity to customize projects to focus on business, healthcare, non-profits, or public administration to help you advance your career or change fields. You’ll cultivate and improve your leadership style as you develop the competencies needed to guide individuals and organizations through the challenges evident in the workplace today and in the future.

A significant advantage, unique to the Centenary University MAOL program, is that after completion of a specific course in this program, students will be prepared to take the test (administered by and paid directly to the AMA) for the American Management Association’s (AMA) (2023) Certified Professional in Management® designation. This is a new credential that “gives individuals a set of recognized criteria to validate their qualifications and advance their careers.” No other four-year institutions in New Jersey are affiliated with this AMA program, and our faculty have been trained and certified by the AMA.

This degree program is grounded in leadership studies and presents participants with modern theories, practical tools, and proven methods to address workplace issues such as change management, productivity, and profits, and to ensure organizational success in an ever-changing world. You’ll learn important skills needed to be effective in organizations and in life, including cultural sensitivity, ethical awareness, negotiation, decision-making, and change management. Focusing on key aspects such as culture, innovation, transparency, diversity, engagement, motivation, teamwork, and cohesive goals, learn about the transformative impact of such a degree on individuals, organizations, and the wider social fabric.

Admissions Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree including official transcripts from all colleges/universities previously attended.
  • Minimum cumulative undergraduate GPA of 2.5 or higher.
  • Personal Statement outlining reasons for applying and how the student plans to use the degree.
  • No GRE requirement.

Program Objectives

The program focuses on three areas of leadership: leading organizations, leading people, and self-leadership. At the completion of the program, students should be able to:

  • Address the challenges facing leaders in public, private, and non-profit organizations in accomplishing strategic objectives.
  • Design a robust vision and support innovative programs aligned with organizational objectives.
  • Analyze organizational behavior, implementing theories and models to improve performance.
  • Function as an operative change agent and decision-maker.
  • Guide and influence others in developing their own capabilities and achieving goals, increasing employee engagement and productivity.
  • Construct effective teams and motivate them to accomplish established targets.
  • Develop self-awareness skills and personal leadership competencies.

Course Descriptions

The program is offered in an accelerated online format, where two courses are taken simultaneously during five consecutive 8-week terms, and the program is completed within one year. Review the courses (PDF).
